A couple years ago I would have agreed more but I think the 70’s colors are making a comeback lately.

I had one back in 1984 when I was at a station in Germany. It was 190 AMG. It was my baby hammer.

I had Lancer SFXi (India variant) and boy what fun it was.

The 190 was not a failed experiment. The 2.3 16v was designed for rallies but Audi started with 4x4s and Mercedes decided they couldn't win with a RWD. The Evo2 is not much better than a 190 16v. I have a 190 Evo2 so I don't need anyone to explain anything to me about the car. In fact, mine weighs 150kg more than a friend's Evo1 powerpack. And since they both give the same power, 235 hp, the Evo1 is faster. It should be mentioned that the DTM were quite different from the street cars. All of them, M3, 190, had EFI. The street 190 did not. And the suspensions were quite different. In 92 the engines could not withstand the training sessions and the two races on the weekend. .They already had a little more than 350 hp. When they had 300 hp they were more reliable. A few 190 2.5 16s were manufactured, one of them by Uwe Nittel, which were authentic rally beasts. And if they had worked a little more on development as they did with the M3, the 190 would have been just as successful. Because one thing is Of course, the 190 is not better than the M3 E30. But the M3 E30 is not better than the 190. They are almost the same with two and four doors The M3 started winning early because the 190 DTM were not developed by Mercedes but by external people. Snobeck, etc. On the other hand, BMW Motorsport got involved directly and went to war. Mercedes took until 1989 to respond to the war. With the Evo1 that AMG developed. But the car arrived late and many races had passed in the 89 season. And for 90 BMW released the Sport Evolution 2.5. So the Evo1 had to be improved a little more. This was for the year 90. But Audi With his 4x4 V8s he spoiled everyone's party And the powerpack in the Evo1 did not have 225 hp. The Powerpack is 30 hp more. So if the Evo1 had CAT and had 195 hp, it is 225 hp. But if the Evo1 was not CAT, it is 205 hp, plus 30 hp, it is 235.The same as the Evo2.And the Evo2 has the powerpack.With a single distribution chain so that it has less inertia above 9,000 rpm.Although this is bad for the reliability of a street car.And some small slots for coolant in the engine block. As there are higher temperatures. But the Evo block is the same in both. Although the Evo1 is more reliable due to the double chain and not having cooling slots. At least for a street car The Evo2 only has the biggest difference with respect to the Evo1 in aerodynamics. Another thing is the developments for competition, which is a different type of material. But in any case, the best version of the 190 is the one that was never manufactured for the street. The Class 1.With the perfected aerodynamics and the improvements of the 93 regulations that could be implemented to an obsolete car compared to the newly created Alfa 155 4x4 And there were so many 190s because most of the racing Evo1s were transformed into Evo2s. That's how equal they were. In fact, today they say that there are only 5 original Evo1 DTMs left. And as street cars there are also fewer Evo1s left so soon, the fools who pay $300,000 or $400,000 for the Evo2 will have to pay more for the Evo1

How the actual hell did Mercedes W201 become a "failure"? Other than the fact that it got its ass handed to it by the BMW M3, and that it didn't go to WRC because if it had, it would've gotten its ass handed to it by the Audi Quattro, in no way is it a failure. In fact, it was so ahead of it's time, that Dodge still uses that layout and suspension tech even today! 40 Years Later! And almost every car on sale has one of the features that this thing had back then. It certainly ain't a failure.

You forgot all the JET BLACK INTERIORS. A bit of interior color feels hopeful, which is probably something they don't want - now that we're becoming obsolete.

I thought the color change was due to the portrayal of futuristic cars in movies of the late '90s and early 2000s. All future cars, electric cars, flying cars, and self-driving cars that we saw in movies like The Matrix were all shades of gray. As cars became more electronic, and automakers wanted those cars to also appear futuristic, they were advertised to us in shades of gray and so we bought them in shades of gray.

Black, grey, white and silver are achromatic colors, i.e. no hue. But are considered in the category of colors.

I've driven the "failed experiment" for about 4 years and it was in his carburettor version much better than the BMW e30 318i i've driven before. The 190 was faster, had offered more space inside, his engine delibers more torque than the stronger 318i, consumed less fuel and runs faster. Was one of the best cars i've ever driven and and sometimes the reason why i'm still driving Mercedes.

A bit of correction, DTM cars were regulated under Group A, not Group C. And the following regulation was Class 1, not Group 1. Group 1 is actually an older regulation (pre-1982).

The idea that Ghosn - who achieved this incredible turnaround - was actually a criminal seems laughable. i go with this storyline, that Ghosn was getting perks that almost all CEO's play with - specifically options on stock ( can you say Steven Jobs ?). so the board and executives at the top were dipping and happy to wink and nod. Finally though a plan was hatched to get rid of the stain on Japanese corporate supremacy - Ghosn - a foreighner. as they say the final straw was he pushing to make Nissan a complete marriage with Renault - a foreign company. the word went out to get rid of Ghosn and keep Renault just a minor partner.

Road racing is even more fun especialy in traffic. Same danger more obstacles, ride it like you stole it.

Thank the insurance industry, for charging you extra on bright colors, and no one has a choice anymore (like trying to get a manual transmission car or truck, for example). It's a sign of the times, where this country turned bland, & everything looks the same (no uniqueness about styling). Vehicles are mostly "Appliances", like a toaster or a refrigerator, than a well styled vehicle

I read somewhere, colorfulness of cars might also be correlated with how healthy the economy is doing.... during economic hardships people tend to buy achromatic colors where as in "happier" time people tend to be more attracted to colors. That said, my BMW is red and it's my first ever red car. I never liked red, but this time I decided to get something different, and I absolutely love the color now and am considering other bright colors for my next car.

I'm an Aussie who drives a 2013 Subaru Forester as my daily-drive & I love how it's powerful, balanced, & smooth to drive. However, I've owned a couple of 2nd Gen SWB Pajeros, & am currently restoring a '95 JDM TD SWB Pajero J-Top (soft-top) which have become quite rare here in Australia!
